LAB Photo - Creative Concept Demonstration
Published Saturday 15th November 2008
While we work with SocialGO on completing the final BETA testing of the platform, the LAB has also been having some fun! We've been playing around with developing some new ideas that "may" someday make it into our products. Here's a take on the "photobooth" concept. Just click, take four pictures, and share your montage... contagious!

This is great man .It is nice to see the Evil one in flesh ,..Robert
hahaha... likewise!
WOWWOW this is really fun hahaha great job guys
Okay, Let me go buy a webcam now, That looks cool!
Very very addictive indeed :-)))) ... so how will this be available? Only from the lab or can we implement this into our networks???
Not sure when or where this will be available... it's only a demonstration of some ideas we're playing around with.
Well, as you can see, i luvvv it hehe... it would be so much fun if i could offer something like this to my members, maybe itwould be cool if we could pimp it up, with text or some glitter effects, stuff like that.. it would be great to use it for seasonal greetings, maybe if we could add christmas hats or christmas stuff to it or halloween kinda things.... just ventilating some ideas i have :)
It was important as soon as possible the WL Chat, as members of my site are losing interest and I have already said they did badly off the NING. I know I did wrong, because I know your capabilities ... but for them "Who expects ... despairs."
When the WL-Chat? will be more important than that of the LAB Photo (pardon my frankness).
Hi Casalindo,
your frankness is appreciated.... and we have the same for you. We are not likely to be releasing the WL Chat in the near future, and if we did, it would likely only be in a paid-premium widget version rather than a free version. SocialGO has their built-in Video/Voice chat and there are many other free group chat products on the market.
As far as losing interest... well... remember the old fable about the Tortois and the Hare? Your small amount of waiting time at SocialGO till the platform is released as final will open up a world of new possibilities... whereas at Ning... it's over. They've closed up shop except for OpenSocial gadgets. There really doesn't seem to be any comparison as to what will keep your members interest in a short while... since all of the energy and creativity will be coming from this side of the fence ;-)

@Budbundy:
The member .csv file contains member name, screen name, and email, and profile question data. It does not contain any of your other network data such as photos or videos. All of that has been blocked from being removed when Ning disabled the REST API.
@Jorge:
I'm not sure if you have it backwards or not? SocialGO has the following methods to communicate: Video/Audio/Type Chat, Private Message, Who-IM, and WL Chat. So, you can have a private or public written chat, a private audio chat, a private video chat, or a private written chat
@Zachary:
We had created Safety Blanket and were able to get out all of our data from Trikepilot, made some video and screenshots, and let you know about it. Then the REST API was shut down that same day. Right now, our only capability for automatic migration is to get your user data out with the CSV file. Grab a copy of yours while it is still an option

Excuse my English, but the translation on google was not the right one,
What I mean is that I find in the SocialGo WL chat you talked about, or a chat open to all members online. Nor can put on the WHO website SocialGo IM with the codes that are available.
Can you help me to do?

Jorge,
The WL version of chat and who-im will be coming online shortly... as of today they have not yet been released.

These were his answers to my questions, the visas are not true ...
I was very unhappy about this, because we do not expect that you also lack the word ...
Because one of the reasons that made me move the site to the SocialGo it was the lack of truth from NING ... The Video / audio chat is only to talk individually, not in a room together. It would be much better and clear a room together with the possibility of depriving someone with this also in the room.
I hope you review your last position.
Thank you.
Casalindo,
I did not say that we were not going to "ever" have Chat on SocialGO... and we have already released Who-IM (which you can get for free by simply copying and pasting the code as described in our blog posting here). What I did say today, and repeat again, is that we are not likely to release the WL version of chat as a FREE product. Instead, it will likely return as a paid premium product that is part of a larger suite of tools or software from us. The reason for this is simple: Chat is EXTREMELY bandwidth and resource intensive to operate. We were running it as a loss-leader on Ning and it only existed because we were able to offset it by selling other products. On SocialGO we will eventually be able to release chat again in a way that allows a site owner to get the use of the product at a price that is reasonable, but also pays for the cost to us of operating the same.
We are nothing but truthful, and welcome your scrutiny. Ultimately, the question is whether you want the chat product enough to be willing to cover the costs of the same, and we found that not that many people were... compared with our other products that had greater benefit but without the overhead.
boo it didn't work for me :(
Casalindo, embed a meebo into your network http://www.meebo.com/rooms/
Friends,
I know that not everything can be free (the work is paid) also did not say who would not pay this feature (WL-Chat), because whenever some functionality in NING made by you and I had an interest was paid, paid for it. I am remembering the "Radar" (which was to see that the member visited) and several others that you have. Now hope is that the WL-CHAT come as a separate product, because you may be thinking about adding a package of features and that maybe some do not interest me and raise the cost of that package.
And if the product WL-Chat is expensive for some ... sometimes we have to be smart (and you have proved to be) and instead of offering some products, charge a minimum so as not to overload the price of another product. So much less to all and perhaps more could buy all or almost all products.
Well there are, thanks.
Ryan,
If I can have a feature of the WL for that I will have a chat to meebo? German that in all the network meebo enter them in our room. And only wish is that the members of my network entering it.
Well there are, thanks.
It didn“t work for me either. Great idea though, brilliant!
@ryan and @arteven ... what OS / Browser combinations are you using?
Do you have firewalls or anything that would interfere with Adobe Flash using your webcams?
mac built in isight tried safari and firefox no go. Asks for cam access and then it just takes a pic of black.
I have an idea... make sure that you've turned off any other programs that are using the camera driver (such as Skype or Meebo). The Adobe Flash camera use is exclusionary and will only allow one program access at a time.
on a side note i think if you made this into an iphone app it would sell like hot cakes. I also think it should out put the photos in a single column like real photo booths.
good side note... you obviously think like we do.. (hint hint) ;-)
ok here is the fix: right click the photo lab window and select settings. then click the little web cam icon. then from drop down choose usb video class and save.
Thanks Ryan!

Here's a screen show of what you mentioned:
EG, the pictures in this thread are huge and go off the page. In safari but not in firefox
ok thats odd, i added a width attribute on my pic and it made all the pics fit.
Yes, we realize that.. the reason is that this magazine main column is 550px or so wide, but the default image on the LAB Photo output is more like 800px. We're probably going to tweak that a bit while we add a couple other fun "goodies" .. ;-)
In the meantime, as you've discovered, simply use the "width="550" height="333" as the attributes after the image code. So something like:
< img src ="abcde.jpg" "width="550" height="333" >
or edit css and add a max-width for all comments
yeah, that's already in the css... but it seems to selectively "kick in" for some reason... sometimes works fine other times one or more photos breaks out.
I like the old school style B&W
