Well done to the social go team and widgetlab!
I love the iframe feature, this could allow us future ex-ning nc to
embed our old ning site as an archive within our social go
network!
also one question.. will the layout manager also work in regular
pages, like forum pages, video page etc... or will we be able to
directly drag forum/group features within any page??
lookin forward for the release
thanks
@Dob,
unfortunately Ning has an iframe "breakout" script installed to
prevent you from iframing your own Ning site elsewhere. But, you
can do it the other way around by formatting certain pages on your
SocialGO site to be iframed into Ning. Chocolate into Peanut
Butter/ Peanut Butter into Chocolate.
One company wants you to have power and control over your own
site... one does not. Wonder why?... ;-)
Yes, I agree with Dokun - it will be worth having waited.
Congratulations on another excellent demo - my mouth is watering -
and it's not just the normal amount of drool
Really helpful video, as were the screenshots. Thanks! A few
questions...
Do you really mean ALL pages? Does this mean it's possible to use
it to change the layout of the group profile and put an RSS feed
box into it? (useful feature on Ning, because I used to put
separate customised news feeds into groups).
Can I use it to globally remove the default music player from
individual member profile pages?
Yes, you will be able to change the layout of the group profile and
put an RSS feed box into it. You will also be able to remove the
default music player from "all" profile pages at once.
You can also create an almost infinite variety of new pages that
use the standard and third-party widgets, as well as unique styling
and display rules.
Besides creating new pages, the default pages (such as Groups) will
be provided for you and you can "modify" them to suit your needs,
which includes hiding elements or adding new elements, and dragging
elements around the layout.
Will groups have a blog, or way to insert HTML (like the other
pages), so we can get real activity generated in the groups?
And, the page structure elements for groups - is there ONE
structure that applies to all groups? Or, are each of these pages
viewed as independent. Or a combination of default areas and
flexible areas.
Groups will have a blog, and can be run just like full sites for
all intents and purposes. They are more powerful than you would
find at Ning, because there is also full super-admin authority over
groups, ability to segregate data from the rest of the site,
etc.
Groups as a whole will be consistent, so that if you format the
main "groups" page, it will be the same for all. However, there is
nothing to stop you from creating custom pages that have group
functions, if you want something unique for a particular group or
person's to use.
@EG
Thanks for clarifying all this. This has huge potential, and I
can't wait to start using it! Equally, it will be possible to
really screw up your network, so sharing best practice/cool ideas
between network owners will be really useful (and important)....
Excellent news on groups. We represent a large group of people. We
need to help them be able to find the groups that are right for
them - and then actually let the group be something with news,
videos, etc. instead of just another tab with a little conversation
area.
Just use your Launch Admin button or go to http://my.socialgo.com (http://my.zocku.com). Then click on
"Layout Manager" and you will be presented with an option to
upgrade.
Evil - In your video, you show placing an I-Frame widget on a
custom page, and suppressing all of the far left column
member/administrative information (this is during minute 15 above,
you use google.com for the example). I do not see how you
suppressed that left side column. When I add the I-Frame, the left
column is still appearing. Input?
Paste the following CSS inside of style tags and either use it
globally across your entire site by pasting into the Ads &
Custom HTML box in the Admin Center, or use it on any particular
page in an HTML widget that you put in a non-descript place on a
page (such as bottom of the Zone A). If you want it to only apply
to one page, then be sure to put it in some spot other than Zone
A.
I have upgrade the layout manager yesterday but...now when i click
on,...nothing ! And the homepagewidget and tabs manager disapeared
! Nobody can help me? Why the layout manager don't work on my
Zocku?

yes, the submenu has a unique identification from the main navigation (ul#sub-navigation, ul.sub-navigation)
