Yes Shady... we know, we've posted on this numerous times.

Ning is DEAD for any development, they killed it themselves... RIP Ning.

    Hi,

Why is it that the friends online, does not match with those in the WHO-IM?

    Something is wrong ...

    please let me explain.

    thanks

Our Who-IM shows who is online on the entire site, and the People Online shows only your friends. Also, Who-IM has an inactivity "timeout" so that people who do not take any action during a certain time period (around 3 minutes or so) will no longer show as "online" until they take some action on the site that refreshes their browser.

Oh isnt this a bit confusing Spence? When it shows only our friends who are online? Maybe it should say then: 'friends online' instead of 'people online'?

I will suggest this at the owners network... thaks a lot for giving us back the WHO IM.

Maybe it would be cool if we could change our status inside the IM, like 'away, occupied, out for lunch' things like this, but i am already very happy with the messenger...

    Great job guys,

    Zohra

    Hi Zohra,
to be quite frank with you... during the course of this BETA both the LAB and SocialGO are playing with different concepts in concert with one another. The status of who is shown in the People Online, as well as the label for the same, is subject to ongoing modification.... and has already been tweaked based upon results and feedback such as what you describe.

Therefore, keep up the good feedback while we figure out the most beneficial system for providing communication and status tools across the entire platform. Likewise, having other power such as a Twitter-like status built on top of the Who-IM or otherwise may be something we consider.

Overall, what is really exciting for us is the fact that we can now make just about ANYTHING possible here at SocialGO... no limitations due to politics or otherwise ;-)

    Hi Evil Genius,

It wouldn't be possible to modify the timeout of Who-Im to taste of the site administrator? I don't think only 3 minutes of timeout is a very practical way to control what users are online ... a user could be watching a video of five minutes, for example, and would no longer appear in Who-Im.

Or... imagine a user who has logged-in but that is interacting with several sites at the same time. Occasionally returns to my site to see if he can talk to someone through Who-Im but didn´t see anyone and then he leaves again (on the other hand, the others users can not see that he has come in because he has not refreshed the web)... Is a vicious circle!!!

I think a more appropriate method for deciding who is online or offline at Who-Im would be leave that decision to users. Thus, each user would be the one who decide if he wants to allow other users send instant messages for him by Who-Im or not. On the other hand, always show up many more users in Who-Im that interact with the Web and would feel more activity in there.

And finally, another question ... there will in future the ability to block certain users so that they can not send us instant messages using Who-Im. This question is quite interesting, because unfortunately some people can become very annoying this way!!!

    Thanks.

    Hi Zealtor,
the Who-IM knows that "any" action that causes the page to refresh or reload means someone is "alive" on the page. The time has been set after hosting literally over a million users on the Ning platform. The die is cast on that one from trial and error over a long period of time.

We'll see what happens with the product in the future on SocialGO ;-)

Ok, of course I don't doubt that you know what you're talking about.... =:-D

What about the last question? I think it could be an important
    improvement...

As soon as we are able to start pumping out our custom products on the SocialGO platform, we think you will be amazed and surprised by some of the clever ideas and improvements to the concept of the instant-messaging... so we appreciate your suggestions and will utilize them when we contemplate how to take the messaging concept "to the next level".

We're very excited to see the active participation of all our members and such great enthusiasm and ideas coming from you and everyone else... it helps motivate and inspire us ;)

    Thanks!

Yes, it must be exciting! :)

I have another cuestion for you if you could help me... I have included a chat Meebo on my home page, that works quite well. The problem is that when is opened the screen of Who-Im, if it overlaps with the chat, the overlapping part of the Who-Im is hidden. How could I avoid this?

    Thanks.

how can I post screen captures here? what I have to do?
  • Evil Genius
by Evil Genius 1 year ago
    Hi Zelator,
you simply need to either upload an image here on the site and then copy and paste the image url inside of <img src=" "> brackets... or use a third-party tool such as <a href="http://skitch.com">Skitch.com</a> to grab the screen and post it up in one easy tool. Then you can also copy and paste the image url here.

In the next release from SocialGO there should be a simple WYSIWYG image attachment/upload option on Forum comments to make this infinitely easier ;-)

You need to add wmode="transparent" to your chat room embed code.

    With
    param name="wmode" value="transparent"
    and
    embed wmode=transparent src="http://widget.meebo.com....

works fine with Firefox and Internet Explorer.

    Thanks!

PS. How could I paste html code here without it being interpreted?

    @distrubia92

Forums do not allow Javascript. As such, you cannot put it into a forum directly. Just follow the directions above, and it will show in the top of your Admin column as it should.

it works if you put the code into the header, so the people who are on free can use it as well as everyone else!!
