Ning is DEAD for any development, they killed it themselves... RIP Ning.
Now we just lack the much desired WL Chat:)
Why is it that the friends online, does not match with those in the WHO-IM?
Something is wrong ...
please let me explain.
thanks
I will suggest this at the owners network... thaks a lot for giving us back the WHO IM.
Maybe it would be cool if we could change our status inside the IM, like 'away, occupied, out for lunch' things like this, but i am already very happy with the messenger...
Great job guys,
Zohra
to be quite frank with you... during the course of this BETA both the LAB and SocialGO are playing with different concepts in concert with one another. The status of who is shown in the People Online, as well as the label for the same, is subject to ongoing modification.... and has already been tweaked based upon results and feedback such as what you describe.
Therefore, keep up the good feedback while we figure out the most beneficial system for providing communication and status tools across the entire platform. Likewise, having other power such as a Twitter-like status built on top of the Who-IM or otherwise may be something we consider.
Overall, what is really exciting for us is the fact that we can now make just about ANYTHING possible here at SocialGO... no limitations due to politics or otherwise ;-)
Thats great news and thanks for informing me :-)
Socialgo is gonna be SMASHING hehehe.... especially with you guys being around here (LOL!!)
It wouldn't be possible to modify the timeout of Who-Im to taste of the site administrator? I don't think only 3 minutes of timeout is a very practical way to control what users are online ... a user could be watching a video of five minutes, for example, and would no longer appear in Who-Im.
Or... imagine a user who has logged-in but that is interacting with several sites at the same time. Occasionally returns to my site to see if he can talk to someone through Who-Im but didn´t see anyone and then he leaves again (on the other hand, the others users can not see that he has come in because he has not refreshed the web)... Is a vicious circle!!!
I think a more appropriate method for deciding who is online or offline at Who-Im would be leave that decision to users. Thus, each user would be the one who decide if he wants to allow other users send instant messages for him by Who-Im or not. On the other hand, always show up many more users in Who-Im that interact with the Web and would feel more activity in there.
And finally, another question ... there will in future the ability to block certain users so that they can not send us instant messages using Who-Im. This question is quite interesting, because unfortunately some people can become very annoying this way!!!
Thanks.
the Who-IM knows that "any" action that causes the page to refresh or reload means someone is "alive" on the page. The time has been set after hosting literally over a million users on the Ning platform. The die is cast on that one from trial and error over a long period of time.
We'll see what happens with the product in the future on SocialGO ;-)
What about the last question? I think it could be an important
improvement...
We're very excited to see the active participation of all our members and such great enthusiasm and ideas coming from you and everyone else... it helps motivate and inspire us ;)
Thanks!
I have another cuestion for you if you could help me... I have included a chat Meebo on my home page, that works quite well. The problem is that when is opened the screen of Who-Im, if it overlaps with the chat, the overlapping part of the Who-Im is hidden. How could I avoid this?
Thanks.
can you post a screen capture?
you simply need to either upload an image here on the site and then copy and paste the image url inside of brackets... or use a third-party tool such as Skitch.com to grab the screen and post it up in one easy tool. Then you can also copy and paste the image url here.
In the next release from SocialGO there should be a simple WYSIWYG image attachment/upload option on Forum comments to make this infinitely easier ;-)
